Edited Pictures

Image
The following are the four pictures that I have taken to use in my magazine. They have been edited in Photoshop with the intention of including different effects. Those edits and effects will be explained. This picture of a stray cat at Walmart was the only one of my pictures that was unedited. I love how this shot came out; the lighting is perfect, you can see the cat's heartbreaking facial expression, the wet, col scenery is visible, etc. What I did to this picture was lower the darkness to emphasize the depressing nature of it. This makes the picture more heart-wrenching and thus would garner a lot of viewer attention, making people want to take action. I did not want to edit anything else because this shot captured every detail I wanted, including the dirty floor,r the dirty rag, the scabs on the dog, etc. One thing I changed about this picture was the curtain color. I made it yellow because yellow is a happy color, and this picture serves to show a luxuriant

Sketches of The Paw's Features

Cover: I envision my cover looking something like this. A stark difference between this imagining and the magazines I took inspiration from is the choice of diving the main image with two cats. One is a pet, loved and living a luxuriant, happy life, the other is a stray, aloof, alone, and living a miserable life. This divide symbolizes all of The Paw since the whole point of the magazine is to look at the lives of pets and the lives of strays. I would insert little buzzwords on puffs, like "Which pet toy are you?" This is interactive and makes readers want to dive in to the magazine. I would have the masthead in a large serif font, since I believe it has a more serious, informed, effect.  The masthead would be on the top of the page, inside a rectangle that contrasts with the main image colors, so it is clear. Similarly, the coverline would be within a square over the main image, however the square would be slightly transparent to not take away or hide the issue. Tabl

Photo Shoot Pictures and Reflection

Image
These were just some of the pet and stray shots that I took. The first, second, and third are all shots of pets, with different intentions. The first one shows a caged dog, dirtied and injured. This was taken at an eye-level shot, to reveal the background is a basement, cold and dark. This also shows the pet's face, looking down, looking miserable. The intent of this is to show that pets do not always have better lives than strays. This would lead a page about improving pet well-being. The second picture is of a pet sleeping as well. This shot is to contrast the last. Although both are sleeping, notice how comfortable this one is. Instead of a cold concrete floor on a cold metal cage, this pet has a big, soft couch all to himself. There is also a window letting in nice, ambient morning light, and a lamp right next to him. This shot shows a pet living lavishly, and would also help with the well-being topics. The third is of myself and one of my own dogs. We are outside p
